HP Israel wins navy IT outsourcing contract

The IDF is considering adopting the model across the navy and may extend it to other corps.

The Israel Navy has chosen HP Israel to carry out the outsourcing of its IT infrastructure. Also participating in the tender were Ness Technologies (Nasdaq: NSTC), Bynet Data Communications Ltd., Yael Software and Systems Ltd. and EDS. The project is estimated to be worth several million shekels.

The project, which will be implemented at a number of naval bases, is the first of kind in the IDF, which is considering adopting the model across the Navy and may later extend it to other corps, in line with the policy set out by the IDF chief of staff and C4I Directorate, which supports the outsourcing of professional activity.

Under the project, HP Israel will assume full responsibility for the management and operation of the Navy’s IT infrastructure, including computer and communications centers, information security and full end user support. The IDF will retain overall responsibility for the project and soldiers’ personal needs.
