New fund EMB Capital looks to cellular

Former Pele-Phone executive Eilon Agam gathers a group of private investors.

Former Pele-Phone Communications Ltd. VP content and value added services Eilon Agam has formed EMB Capital Ltd., a private equity fund specializing in investment in Internet and cellular content services. The fund will invest in new content companies and ventures, as well as existing companies seeking to expand their activity in Israel and overseas.

Agam says the new fund will not operate as a venture capital fund but as an investment fund with a more flexible structure. "The investments will focus on companies and ventures specializing in Internet and cellular content," he adds.

Globes: How much capital do you have under management and who are your investors?

Agam: "The fund has not raised any capital, but rather, a group of private investors who will allocate capital for any venture deemed a suitable investment target. The total investment will not exceed $1 million each, and I believe we'll make three or four investments a year."

This amount of capital is rather limited. How will you finance the companies at the later stages?

"When the companies need more capital we'll find an investor group that can invest larger sums in them."

According to Agam, EMB Capital is already reviewing a number of potential investment projects, including Internet and cellular content ventures, as well as mobile virtual network operators and WiMAX technologies.

Will the companies you finance target customers overseas or in Israel?

"The idea is to set up an ecosystem in Israel, that is to say a marketing environment. Israel is without doubt an ideal melting pot for the development of new content services. We'll take the companies overseas afterwards."
