ES Vascular raises $3m

The firm feels it can allow a greater rate of minimally invasive surgeries in some situations.

Medical device start-up ES Vascular Ltd. has raised $3 million from private investors. The company also appointed Shuki Porath as CEO.

ES Vascular was founded in 2003 by Prof. Edward Shifrin, a vascular surgeon. The company has innovative vascular stapling technology for open, laparoscopic and endovascular aortic grafting procedures. Use of the company’s revolutionary staplers is intended to significantly reduce both vascular clamping and total operating time, and consequently reduce mortality, morbidity, hospitalization and ICU time for such patients.

The firm feels one of its products will allow a greater rate of minimally invasive surgeries in some situations. Currently in the US, only 50,000 minimally invasive abdominal procedures are carried out every year out of 170,000 hernia operations.
