Given Imaging expands Fujufilm deal to Japan

Fujifilm Medical already distributes PillCam SB in China and other countries.

Given Imaging Ltd. (Nasdaq: GIVN; TASE: GIVN) has expanded its contract with Fujifilm Corporation (Nasdaq: FUJI; TSE: 4901) subsidiary Fujifilm Medical Co. Ltd. for the distribution of Given Imaging's PillCam small bowel (SB) in Japan. The company did not disclose the size of the expanded contract.

Fujifilm already distributes PillCam SB in China and other countries. The two companies have also collaborated in R&D since 2007. Fujifilm Medical is a leader in the endoscope market.

Given Imaging president and CEO Homi Shamir said, "We believe that this partnership will provide excellent care for those patients suffering from gastrointestinal disorders in Japan. With both Suzuken and Fujifilm Medical acting as distributors of the company's products for the small bowel in Japan, we can expand our footprint and sales in the promising Japanese market. In addition, Fujifilm's Double Balloon endoscope, launched in 2003 to treat diseases of the small bowel, is the perfect complement to Given Imaging's capsule endoscopy."

Given Imaging's share rose 3% on Nasdaq yesterday to $10.59. The share rose 3.3% in early trading on the TASE to NIS 43.
