Paul Landes to head gov't anti money laundering unit

Landes will replace the acting director general of Israel Money Laundering Prohibition Authority.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israel Money Laundering Prohibition Authority (IMPA) legal adviser Paul Landes will be appointed acting director general, succeeding Yehuda Shaffer, who is due to leave this month. No search committee has yet been set up Shaffer's replacement, so Landes - who is a candidate for the post - will temporarily head the agency.

Shaffer was appointed Deputy State Prosecutor for Economics Enforcement, a new post established to fight economic crime.

Landes, 38, was appointed IMPA legal counsel three years ago. Before that, he was legal counsel for Road 6 franchisee Derech Eretz Highways Ltd.

Other possible candidates for IMPA chairman are State Prosecutor International Division director Gal Levertov and State Prosecutor Taxation and Economics Tali Najari. Najari is the prosecutor in the money laundering case against Arcadi Gaydamak.
