IKEA finally gets OK for Rishon LeZion branch

IKEA Israel plans to open the store in late February or early March 2010.

The red tape that has tied up the opening of IKEA Israel's second store at Me'uyan Soreq in Rishon LeZion has finally been cut. The Central Regional Planning and Building Commission subcommittee for objections has approved the plan for the area, the final stage in the planning process.

The decision provides the go-ahead for the opening of IKEA Israel's store in Rishon LeZion. IKEA plans to open the store in late February or early March 2010. IKEA Israel franchisee Bronfman Fisher Investments Ltd. owns the land through Iris Hagilboa Construction and Development Ltd.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Bronfman Fisher Investments will invest up to NIS 400 million in opening the new IKEA store, including construction of the building and its internal infrastructures. The company has also begun the hiring of 450 employees for the store.

Although obtaining the building permit took a long time, it seems that the Rishon LeZion Municipality did not waste this time. Last week, work began on widening Road 4311 (between Rishon LeZion and Palmachim), which leads to Me'uyan Soreq. The road will be made from a two-lane road into a four-lane dual-carriageway.

Later, Egged Israel Transport Cooperative Society Ltd. will operate bus lines to and from Me'uyan Soreq.
