Road 6 to start adding lanes next week

The Cross-Israel Highway will have three lanes in each direction to the Nitzanei Oz Interchange.

Road 6, the Cross-Israel Highway franchisee Derekh Eretz Israel Highways Ltd. will start widening the central section of the highway next week. The company will add a third lane in each direction from the Eyal Interchange near Kfar Saba to the Nitzanei Oz Interchange east of Netanya.

The work will cost NIS 110 million and will take 12 months.

Derekh Eretz Israel Highways CEO Ehud Savion told "Globes" that every effort will be made to ensure the optimal flow of traffic during the works. He estimated that the extra lane will add 8-10% to the road's traffic volume as happened after the road was widened to three lanes in each direction between the Nahsholim Interchange near Petah Tikva and the Eyal Interchange. That work was completed last September.

Next year a third land in each direction will be added from the Nahsholim Interchange to the Ben Shemen Interchange where Road 6 meets Road 1, the Tel Aviv Jerusalem highway.
