Israel to join YouTube ad pilot program

Google Israel head Meir Brand: It’s a major honor that Israel was chosen.

Google wants to capture the video advertising market in Israel as well.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israel will take part in a pilot program set up by Google-owned video sharing site YouTube, and Israeli advertising agencies will take part. The goal is to encourage Israeli advertisers to allocate more resources to advertising on Google's video platform.

As part of the pilot program, Israeli agencies will benefit from media fees for advertising on YouTube, periodic instruction in YouTube's measurement and planning tools, joint research to analyze Internet user behavior, and advice and support on any marketing issue. The pilot program will last for a year, and then its results will be analyzed.

Marketing options that will be offered as part of the program include pre-roll (an advertisement that shows before a video clip), mid-roll ads (advertisements that show in the middle of the clip), home page banner ads, and overlays (banner ads that run on top of a video).

Google Israel already held advance meetings with a small number of advertising agencies in Israel, as it looked to adapt the global program to the local market. Over the coming weeks, Google Israel will accelerate its efforts, as it tries to convince agencies to join the program.

Google Israel country manager Meir Brand confirmed the report, saying, "For me, it’s a major honor that Israel is the seventh country chosen to participate in YouTube's international pilot. The goal is to show that Google is committed to the video advertising sector, and intends to strengthen the sector and invest in it."
