El Al pilots refuse English test

El Al: The refusal by the pilots is liable to disrupt international flight schedules, because its pilots will not have the requisite licenses.

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) today notified the TASE that the Pilots Union refuses to allow pilots, including El Al pilots, to take the English language exam ordered yesterday by the Israel Civil Aviation Authority for all pilots making international flights, as well as all air traffic controllers. The exams are part of safety requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and are a requirement for renewing an international pilot's license.

El Al warned that the refusal by the pilots is liable to disrupt international flight schedules, because its pilots will not have the requisite licenses.

The Civil Aviation Authority ordered all international pilots to take the English exam no later than March 5.

El Al said that its CEO has asked all its pilots to immediately take the exam in order to meet the legal requirements set by the ICAO. The airline said that the union has so far refused to change its position.
