Eli Hurvitz hospitalized

The condition of the former Teva CEO is serious.

Eli Hurvitz, who was CEO of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) from 1976 to 2002, was hospitalized last night at Sheba Medical Center - Tel Hashomer. His condition continues to be serious.

Just two weeks ago, Hurvitz participated in the Go4Europe business conference to foster investment between Israel and Europe. During the event, he received a lifetime achievements award for turning Teva into a leading global pharmaceutical company. Conference organizer, Cuckierman & Co. Investment House chairman Edouard Cuckierman awarded the prize to Hurvitz.

In 2002-10, Hurvitz served as Teva's chairman, after turning it, as CEO, into Israel's largest company and the world's leading generic drug company. He has also served as president of the Manufacturers Association of Israel and as chairman of Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI).
