Waze predicts 70m users in 2013

The traffic app forecasts it will nearly double the number of its users from 34 million at the end of 2012, to 70 million at the end of 2013.

Completely ignoring reports about negotiations with Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), social navigation app company Waze Ltd. today posted on its Hebrew-language blog a summary of 2012 and predictions for 2013. It predicts that it will nearly double the number of its users from 34 million at the end of 2012 to 70 million at the end of 2013.

Waze does not say how it plans to achieve this goal, but it will presumably enter new markets, and marketing activity, such as collaboration with local television stations which provide traffic updates, and a built-in Waze feature for cars.

Waze gave milestones towards its 70 million users target: 40 million users by March, and 50 million users by July.

In the blog post, Waze emphasizes the savings that its navigation app provides. It estimates that users will save 82 million hours by avoiding traffic congestion, and that they will save $2.1 billion in fuel costs and from docking of pay bynot arriving late to work.

Waze also claims that use of its app will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 844,000 tons, save 30 million gallons of gasoline by April, and that users will have traveled 30 billion kilometers by December.
