New Jerusalem entrance highway to be named for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef

Road 16 will run from an interchange at Motza with the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway to the Begin Highway near Shaare Zedek.

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz has decided to commemorate Rabbi Ovadia Yosef by naming Road 16, the new entrance highway into Jerusalem, after him. Road 16 will run from an interchange at Motza with Road 1 (the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway) to Herzl Boulevard at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center and the Begin Highway. The 4.7-kilometer road will cut through the Jerusalem Forest.

Planning of the new highway has already begun, with construction due to begin in the coming year.

Katz said, "I have decided to name the new entrance road to Jerusalem for the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Rabbi Yosef was a great figure for the People of Israel and a great figure in Jerusalem. This road will run from Mevasseret and will pass by the neighborhood of Har Nof, where the rabbi lived. Road 16 will symbolically link two great men: Menachem Begin and Rabbi Ovadia Yosef through the two main entrances to the city."
