Public to pay NIS 500m to save Hadassah

Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization will pay only $19 million a year to the hospital.

NIS 500 million is the amount of the settlement that the Ministry of Finance and Hadassah Medical Center are negotiating. The government will inject NIS 150-200 million into the hospital to compensate laid-off employees, including administrative and support staff and highly paid doctors.

The government will also provide a NIS 100 million loan at preferential terms, and NIS 100-150 million for "investment in infrastructures". It will inject a further NIS 150-200 million in exchange for the transfer of assets, historical properties, and hospital-owned apartments in Jerusalem. The Government Assessor will assess the properties.

Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America, which has controlled Hadassah Hospital for a century, is still insisting that it will transfer just $19 million a year to the hospital, the amount it has been giving in the past few years, but has promised to raise donations to complete the new hospital tower that the organization and hospital management jointly initiated.
