Transport minister raises speed limit

The speed limit on the Cross-Israel Highway will be raised to 120 km/h.

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz today signed a new directive to raise the speed limit on highways from 110 km/h to 120 km/h. He accepted the recommendation by the Cross-Israel Highway Company Ltd., which operates the Road 6 Yitzhak Rabin Highway to raise the speed limit on the toll road. Speed limits on highways will be raised after consultations with the Israel Police Traffic Unit.

The higher speed limit will initially apply to Road 6, which was originally designed for a 130 km/h speed limit, so there is no problem raising the speed limit to 120 km/h.

Cross-Israel Highway Company has completed a number of safety upgrades, making the higher speed limit possible, including new guardrails, shoulder rumble strips, and lane reflectors ("cats eyes") along various sections of the highway.
