IDF calls up 16,000 more reservists

The security cabinet has approved the expansion of the operation in Gaza.

As Operation Protective Edge enters its 24th day, the IDF has called up 16,000 more reservists after the security cabinet last night approved the expansion of the operation in Gaza, and in particular the efforts to find tunnels. This brings to 86,000 the number of reserve soldiers called up since the operation began.

There have been heavy exchanges of fire between IDF forces and Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the Bureij refugee camp in the center of the strip.

Meanwhile rocket fire on Israel continues with alarms this morning in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Beersheva, Kiryat Malachi, Beer Tuvia and the region around Gaza although no property damage or casualties were reported.

Egyptian sources say that a senior delegation of 5 Israelis are in the country to discuss with Egyptian military representatives the latest developments in attempts to reach a cease-fire.

Yesterday three more Israeli soldiers were killed bring the IDF's losses to 56 during Operation Protective Edge.
