Video clip editing app company Jovie has raised $500,000. The seed financing round was led by Yoel Cheshin's 2B Angels and Arale Cohen with the participation of Ron Zuckerman, Dov Moran, Joey Low and Yaacov Gorsd. Jovie was founded by Assaf Harel who produced the TV series "Mesudarim." The company's management also includes other leading Israeli TV producers Gideon Raff (Homeland) and AOL President Video Ran Harnevo.
Jovie's app contains a bank of videos from well-known movies that users can go into and edit into a movie. Each clip has a set beginning and end with users able to put their own pictures into the middle. The clips, or jovies as the app calls them, are arranged according to topics: current affairs, movies, sports, and original footage filmed especially for the app.
Jovie CEO Harel said, "Even the shortest video needs a story. Some punch. If we take a boring story and put an attractive filter on it that won't make it into a good movie. So we have set up a complex network of screenwriters, producers and editors creating new templates every day. If you ask the average person to make a funny clip - he'll freeze. He wouldn't know where to begin. But if you ask him to make his version of the Haarlem shake orto write a translation of Hitler looks for a parking space, it will be a lot easier for him because then he understands what's funny and what's expected of him."
The app is available on iPhone and an Android version is planned.
