The package includes unlimited talk, text and data use in 16 countries.

In another attempt to shake up the domestic cellular market, Golan Telecom Ltd., controlled by Michael Golan, is turning its attention to the overseas calls and surfing market. For the first time in Israel, a cellular operator is offering a comprehensive package of unlimited overseas talk, text and data for NIS 99. The service currently covers 16 countries, and is valid for 45 days. Users exceeding this quota will pay more, but how much more is so far unclear.

Golan's initiative is coming at a good time for the company before the High Holy Days, when the demand for overseas flights peaks.

At a press conference, Golan presented the new plan, but not before an extensive review of the company's business since it entered the market and the revolution it spearheaded. According to Golan, the reform in the cellular market has saved NIS 5 billion, and if the landline communications market is opened to competition, a similar saving is in store, since prices of communications packages including telephone, television, and Internet are among the highest in the world.

The countries covered by Golan's package are UK, France, Spain, and Turkey, which are available immediately, and Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Malta, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and Greece, which will be available soon. The US and Asian countries are not covered by the package, and Golan did not undertake to include them in the package at a later time.
