Israeli airlines will be allowed to install Wi-Fi on their planes.

The Ministry of Transport has decided to change its policy on use of electronic devices on flights, and Israelis too will shortly be able to work, play, view movies and listen to music on electronic devices during take-off and landing.

Less than a year ago, the US Federal Aviation Administration announced that airlines could allow the use of electronic devices during the entire flight, including take-off and landing. Last week, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) adopted the same policy, including use of mobile telephones, saying that it presented no risk, and now Israel is following suit.

The Israel Civil Aviation Authority has announced that airlines can choose whether or not to allow use of electronic devices and to install Wi-Fi to facilitate use of mobile telephones. Israeli airlines El Al, Arkia, and Israir said yesterday that they were examining the new decision.
