The Histadrut, General Federation of Labor, is striking Israel's courts today in solidarity with the Israel Postal Company employees and their opposition to proposed reforms. As part of the strike all administrative staff in the courts will not work today, however, court hearing will continue as scheduled. Israel Courts Workers Committee Chairman Dani Hasson said, "At this stage we are only talking about a one-day warning strike."
At the same time Israel Postal Company employees are renewing their sanctions this morning. The sanctions include halting deliveries of registered mail, providing no services to government ministries and foreign embassies, refusing to transfer ownership of vehicles, and not collecting court, police or local authority fines.
Histadrut Chairman Avi Nissenkorn said, "We cannot let this crisis continue. I call on all the bodies involved in the decision about the future of the Israel Postal Company to work responsibly and without delay. With layoffs hanging over their heads, about 7,000 families are living in uncertainty over the holiday and being held to ransom and forced to pay a heavy price."
