Prime Minister Benjamin Benjamin Netanyahu, who currently also serves as Minister of Finance, signed his approval yesterday evening of the decision of the Israel Land Council on the price target housing program. This is the last stage before implementation of the program and publications of the tenders for reduced-price housing, that is, if the recently declared industrial action by Israel Land Authority workers does not prevent the tenders taking place.
The Ministry of Housing and Construction remains optimistic that the tenders will go ahead despite the opposition of the Israel Land Authority workers committee. A ministry source explained that the tenders could be published through the ministry itself rather than through the Israel Land Authority.
The first tender due is for 2,800 housing units in Rosh Ha'ayin, of which 1,700 will be reduced-price units. The tender will be divided into 12 lots, and no minimum price has been set for the land. The Ministry of Housing and Construction says that the tender is ready for publication and that the price per meter for the reduced-price units has been set at NIS 9,400.
The second tender under the price-target program, in Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, is due to be published next week, comprising 700 units, of which 80% will be reduced-price. The tender was to have been for 1,500 units, but was cut down in scope because of objections by Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut mayor Haim Bibas.
