"Yedioth Ahronoth" reports that Cathay Pacific wants to begin flights in mid-2016.

Cathay Pacific, one of the world's leading airlines, is considering operating flights between Tel Aviv and Hong Kong, reports "Yedioth Ahronoth." A delegation from the company visited Israel last week and met local aviation figures to examine procedures for commencing flights.

The Cathay pacific delegation met with officials of the Israel Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority as well as security personnel at Ben Gurin Airport, reports "Yediot Ahronoth."

The newspaper understands that Cathay Pacific would like to begin operating scheduled flights with recently purchased Airbus A350 aircraft in mid-2016.

At present only El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) operates on the Tel Aviv-Hong Kong route. The added value of Cathay Pacific would be its network of follow-on flights to destinations in the Far East and Australia.

Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific flies to 168 destinations in 42 countries.
