Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed the former Israel ambassador to the UN to replace Nissim Ben-Shitreet.

Former Israel Ambassador to the UN Dore Gold has been appointed the new director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Gold will replace Nissim Ben-Shitreet who was fired by Netanyahu, who holds the foreign ministry portfolio.

Gold is a close confidante of Netanyahu and is known for his right wing views and opposition to a two state solution. He currently heads the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.
