Johns Hopkins to assist $30m Israeli digital healthcare fund

The new venture is expected to make its first investments in the first quarter of 2016.

A new business entity will invest $30 million in Israeli digital medicine ventures, sources inform "Globes." Collaborating with the venture will be US hospital Johns Hopkins, one of the world's largest medical institutions,and Luminox-Health, an Israeli group dealing in digital medicine.

Johns Hopkins's annual budget is more than $7 billion, and the new venture is expected to make its first investments already in the first quarter of 2016.

The new cooperative venture will be officially unveiled next Wednesday at an event at the Peres Peace Center, under the title "Israel Launches its New Innovation Frontier." Former Israeli prime minister and president Shimon Peres, Chief Scientist Hasson, and representatives of Johns Hopkins and Luminox-Health are expected to take part in the event.

Johns Hopkins President Ronald Daniels said that Israel was known for its innovation and leading technology, and he was very curious to find out about Israeli creativity in digital medicine. He added that through cooperation with Luminox-Health, he expected to find breakthrough ventures that would have a significant effect on Johns Hopkins' ability to carry out its strategy of adapting the way medical services are provided to modern life, with an emphasis on preventative medicine, personalized medicine, availability, and access to high-quality medical services.
