The Cross Israel Highway now stretches 166 kilometers from Ein Tut in the north to Shoket West in the south.
A new six kilometer section of Road 6, the Cross Israel Highway, opens Thursday night between the Lakiya Interchange and the Shoket West Interchange in the Negev. Earlier this year, various sections of Road 6 between the Devira Interchange via the Rahat Interchange to the Lahavim and Lakiya Interchanges were opened, and in the coming weeks work will be completed on extending Road 6 to the Shoket Interchange on Road 60 south of Beersheva. Eventually, Road 6 is planned to reach Hanegev Junction to serve the recently completed IDF Training Base city. With the opening of the latest section, Road 6 will extend from Ein Tut in the north via 17 interchanges to Shoket West 166 kilometers to the south - a journey of less than 90 minutes with the speed limit on the road recently raised to 120 kilometers per hour. Road 6 is a toll road in the north and center of the country but is free from the Sorek Interchange southwards including the recently opened sections.
