Thu: Teva, banks lead declines

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange closed the week with a down day, but the insurance sector was strong. 

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.38%, to 1,423.46 points; the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.31%, to 1,250.63 points; and the BlueTech Index fell 0.12%, to 355.7 points. The TelBond 20 corporate bond index fell 0.17%, to points. Turnover totaled NIS 1.34 billion.

Trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange has been interrupted over the past three weeks because of the Jewish holiday season. Over that period, the Tel Aviv 25 Index has fallen 1.3%. The index is down 6.9% for the year to date.

On the foreign exchange market, the representative shekel-dollar rate was flat, at NIS 3.8410/$, and the representative shekel-euro rate was set 0.06% higher, at NIS 4.1969/€.

All but one of the five leading stocks fell today. Teva led trading, and closed off 1.31%. Perrigo rose 0.37%; Bank Hapoalim fell 0.36%; Bank Leumi fell 1.22%; and Israel Chemicals fell 0.71%.

Contrary to the general trend, the insurance sector was strong today. Clal Insurance rose 2.61%; Migdal rose 1.94%; and Harel rose 1.81%. Frutarom rose 1.6%.
