Rony Hizkaiyahu was Supervisor of Banks in 2010-2016 and has been First International Bank chairman since 2012.

The cabinet has unanimously approved Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon's appointment of Rony Hizkiyahu as the next accountant general.

Hizkiyahu has been chairman of First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN) since 2012. The official announcement of his appointment said he had "vast experience in the public and private sector… his service in the Ministry of Finance will be a great assistance in strengthening the Israeli economy, continuing the responsible management of Israel's debt, and maintaining the country's high credit rating."

Hizkiyahu was Supervisor of Banks in 2006-2010 during Stanley Fischer's term as Governor of the Bank of Israel.

Earlier this month, "Globes" reported that Hizkiyahu did not meet the threshold conditions for accountant general, which include, among other things, a BA in economics, business administration, or accounting. He holds a BSc in industrial engineering and management from Ben Gurion University. The Civil Service Commission nevertheless approved his appointment.

According to the announcement, Hizkiyahu will shortly begin his run-in period in cooperation with outgoing Accountant General Michal Abadi-Boiangiu.
