An Israel Police spokesperson today announced that a bomb had exploded near businessman and Mivtach Shamir Holdings Ltd. (TASE:MISH) shareholder and CEO Meir Shamir's car. The car was parked in a parking lot on Habarzel Street in Tel Aviv when the bomb exploded. No injuries or damage was caused.

The parking lot was closed following the explosion, and drivers were asked not to enter the area. Police sappers on the site said that no terrorism was involved, and an investigation was begun to clarify the circumstances of the event. Only later was it discovered that the bomb had exploded near Shamir's car.

Until recently, Shamir owned 20% of Tnuva Food Industries Ltd.'s shares through a holding company. In March 2015, Chinese company Bright Food bought Shamir's shares for €252 million. Bright Food also paid Apax Partners €684 million for its 56.5% controlling interest in Tnuva.

Among other things, Shamir is a former owner of the Hapoel Petah Tikva soccer club.
