"Globes" today reports that in a lightening move following two short weeks of negotiations, Adv. Eyal Rosovsky, one of Israel's leading litigators, has decided to leave the Zellermayer, Pelossof, Rosovsky, Tsafrir, Toledano & Co law firm, together with 20 members of the firm's litigation department, which he heads, and join the firm of Meitar Liquornik Geva Leshem Tal.
The news is another severe blow to the Zellermayer firm, and could spell its end. For Meitar, however, which is already Israel's largest firm, with a prominent litigation department headed by Dr. Israel (Reli) Leshem, the new members are a substantial achievement that comes on top of previous mergers and recruitment of senior lawyers.
The Meitar partners convened today and announced that Rosovsky and his 20-strong team of lawyers, including eight partners, headed by veteran lawyer Adv. Eran Shimony, were joining the firm. The new staff brings the number of lawyers at Meitar to 280.
Rosovsky has represented corporations, banks, investment houses, and economic leaders. His clients include Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI), Apax Partners, Psagot Investment House Ltd., Pelephone Communications Ltd., Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ), Tnuva Food Industries Ltd., Golan Telecom Ltd., Paz Oil Company Ltd. (TASE:PZOL), and Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT).
For the past two years, Rosovsky has headed the defense team of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the Talansky affair, and engineered Olmert's plea bargain on charges of obstruction of justice. Two years ago, he and his team were responsible for the legal proceeding that cost Nochi Dankner control of IDB Holding Corp. Ltd. (TASE:IDBH), when they represented bondholders of IDB Development Corporation Ltd. (TASE:IDBD). He also represented former IDF spokesman Avi Benayahu in the Harpaz document affair, which was recently closed without any indictments filed.
In the two recent rounds of appointments to the Supreme Court, Rosovsky was the only private lawyer included among the candidates (he was recommended by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch in the first round and by former Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni in the second).
