Leah Rabin: No Reconciliation Meeting with Netanyahu

"A reconciliation meeting is out of the question. The sediment is heavy. Only two weeks ago we saw Netanyahu sitting and whispering grave words of incitement in the ear of Rabbi Kadourie".

Mrs. Leah Rabin said this morning, in an interview with Galei Zahal (IDF radio station), that she does not know what gave rise to the report of a forthcoming meeting between her and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She emphasised that if there were any intention of meeting, it seems reasonable to assume that the reports form part of the Prime Minister’s public relations and she had not been approached in this matter.

"We were invited to the office of the Knesset chairman, where the Prime Minister was due to arrive. Which is to say that a casual meeting is possible, but that certainly does not amount to an act of reconciliation", she explained.

"A reconciliation meeting is out of the question. The sediment is heavy. Only two weeks ago we saw Netanyahu sitting and whispering grave words of incitement in the ear of Rabbi Kadourie", Rabin explained her reluctance.

Asked whether she would respond favourably to an official personal request by Netanyahu for a meeting, Leah Rabin replied: "When it arrives, I will consider it. Do not ask ‘whether’, I do not deal in hypotheses, it seems to me that it is a little late now, after two years".

Leah Rabin added that she would consent to such a meeting only if Netanyahu asked pardon and admitted his grave error (the savage incitement he led against Yitzhak Rabin, according to Leah Rabin): "The whole system of incitement that existed before Yitzhak was assassinated was what ultimately led to the assassination, so let him stand up and admit his error".
