36.7% TV rating for World Cup final

1.4 million Israelis took a respite from the conflict to watch Germany beat Argentina.

Israelis took at two and a half hour break from following the Gaza conflict on TV to watch the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro last night between Germany and Argentina. The match attracted on Channel 1 attracted an average 36.7% rating, which translates into 1,404,000 viewers who saw Germany win 1-0 to claim the World Cup for the fourth time. This was a 55% TV viewing market share.

Last night's viewing figures were very similar to the last World Cup four years ago in South Africa when Spain beat Holland 1-0. In 2010 there was a 37.1% rating which translated into 1,373,000 viewers.

With last night's World Cup final, Channel 1 ended a major broadcasting operation which encompassed 53 matches broadcast live. Channel 2 franchisee Reshet broadcast 10 matches.
