After a lull in fighting today due to the Eid El Fitr holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan, rocket fire intensified toward the evening. At about 5.50 pm a mortar shell struck the Eshkol Region killing four people and injuring 10 - one seriously. Four of the injured were airlifted by helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva.

As diplomatic attempts continued to find an elusive cease-fire, there were rocket attacks throughout Israel with sirens even sounding as far north as Zichron Ya'akov this evening. The IDF also thwarted a Hamas infiltration in the Shaar Hanegev region.

Hamas reported this afternoon that the IDF had attacked Shiffa Hospital in Gaza and there had been many fatalities. However, the IDF insisted that it had not bombed the hospital and the incident had probably been caused by the failed launch of a rocket.
