DealTime buys Internet company Digital Jones of California

Digital Jones developed an artificial intelligence-based product operating as a “virtual salesperson”.

Israeli company DealTime, which focuses on comparison shopping online, today announced it was acquiring Internet company digital Jones of California in a share-swap.

DealTime CEO Dan Ciporin would not comment on the value of the deal. Digital Jones developed an artificial intelligence-based product operating as a “virtual salesperson”. The product enables a purchase experience similar to that in a real-world store vis-a-vis a human salesperson. The virtual salesperson asks the buyer for specific descriptions of his requirements concerning the product and the price he is prepared to pay, and selects the most suitable product for the buyer.

Under a partnership agreement, DealTime used Digital Jones’s product on its Internet site. Ciporin said that following very positive feedback on the technology, DealTime decided to buy the company, so as to provide a combined purchase solution that might be sold to other Internet sites.

Digital Jones has 35 staff, who will be incorporated into DealTime. Digital Jones’s board of directors include Prof. Edward Eigenbaum of Stanford University, who won the Turing Prize in 1994, and Amit Shah, Cisco’s vice president for markets and new technologies.
