A Ganei Tikva dentist and a businessman from Atlit are the latest to be arrested for holding unreported capital in Switzerland.

Sorin Hershkowitz (62) from Ganei Tikva, the owner of a private dental clinic in Givatayim, and Michael Verner (63) from Atlit who formerly owned a packaging materials business in Haifa have been named as two additional suspects for holding unreported capital in accounts in Swiss bank UBS. The two were arrested and each released on NIS 250,000 bail this morning.

A large scale, complex tax assessment investigation is underway in Haifa and the north concerning Israelis holding unreported Swiss bank accounts worth hundreds of millions of euros. Most of those under investigation were clients of Roni Elias, an investment advisor for UBS.

It is suspected that Hershkowitz and Verner hid income in UBS accounts in Switzerland from 2003 onwards. Hershkowitz had 700,000 Swiss francs in his account and Verner had 400,000 Swiss francs. Searches in the homes of the two suspects uncovered documents linking them to the bank accounts.

Judge Shulamit Barslev in the Haifa District Court agreed to release the two on bail this morning and issued an order preventing them from leaving the country.
