Arkia Airlines Ltd. CEO Nir Dagan and Embraer commercial aviation division president and CEO John Slattery have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the procurement of six of Embraer's flagship E195-E2 aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK. The first planes in the series will be delivered in 2019.
Under the terms of the MoU, Arkia will buy six aircraft and receive rights to purchase four more. The deal has an estimated value of $650 million.
Artkia already has four Embraer aircraft in its fleet. These are planes with 134 seats.
Dagan said, "Bringing these planes into our fleet will open up opportunities for Arkia to offer passengers new vacation destinations. These planes have a splendid and comfortable design in the passenger cabin and I am sure that our customers will like flying in these planes."
Arkia also announced recently that it several months ago bought four Airbus A-330-900 NEO aircraft that will allow it to start transatlantic flights to North America and open up routes to the Far East. That deal is worth $500 million and the planes will be delivered in 2018.
