Ashdod Port workers c'tee chairman arrested

Alon Hassan is suspected of promoting his business at the port through extortion and threats.

Ashdod Port workers committee chairman Alon Hassan is the main suspect in the corruption affair at the port. He was questioned this morning and this afternoon was arrested until Monday.

Hassan was arrested on suspicion that he gave and received bribes, fraud and breach of corporate trust, extortion with threats and money laundering. It is also suspected that Hassan and others promoted his personal business at the port through extortion and threats.

The Histadrut General Federation of Labor said, "Under the circumstances surrounding Alon Hassan, his authority as chairman of the workers committee has been transferred to Avinoam Shoshan who will be acting chairman of the Ashdod Port workers committee until matters become clear."

This morning 15 port workers including senior workers leaders were arrested by police and some had their homes raised.

As part of the same investigation police have also detained for questioning some of the controlling shareholders in Shemen Oil and Gas Resources Ltd. (TASE: SOG).
