Ben Gurion Airport to double low-cost flights

The Israel Airport Authority has approved 89 weekly flights from Terminal 1.

The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) has approved the operation of double the number of low-cost flights by Israeli carriers from Ben Gurion Airport's Terminal 1 this summer. The IAA approved 89 weekly flights, double the number of flights last summer, and up from 56 weekly flights from Terminal 1 in the winter.

Operation costs at Terminal 1 (the main terminal until 10 years ago) are lower than at the main Terminal 3. Terminal 1 operates under certain limitations. The Terminal is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm and there are no takeoffs before 9 am and after 11 pm. Furthermore, wide-bodied jet cannot use Terminal 1.

The carriers using Terminal 1 operate low-cost flights to Europe.
