The measures are aimed at strengthening the home front.

The government today unanimously approved a series of steps to strengthen the home front in Operation Protective Edge. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Finance Yair Lapid formulated the measures in cooperation with Minister of Defense Moshe Ya'alon and Prime Minister's Office director general Harel Locker.

The program includes advance payments by the National Insurance Institute to soldiers called up for reserve duty and their employers, assistance for the local authorities, procurement of additional protection against missiles, increased welfare and health services, strengthening tourism, and a supportive economic envelope for people and businesses. The program approved by the cabinet is in addition to the program for reinforcing civil resiliency in Sderot and the communities near the Gaza Strip border, which the cabinet approved at the beginning of the operation.
