The Channel 10 workers' committee has declared a work dispute.

The Channel 10 workers' committee has declared a work dispute in protest at management's plans to lay off 45 employees. This allows staff to commence a strike in two weeks' time.

After the end of the main Channel 10 news broadcast yesterday, the channel's workers' committee held an emergency meeting at which committee chairman Matan Hodorov briefed the committee on management's plan to lay off 45 workers. According to Hodorov, the pressure to institute layoffs comes from the RGE group, the shareholder in the channel.

Senior journalists at Channel 10 took part in the meeting, including Tamar Ish-Shalom, Raviv Drucker, Ayala Hasson, Guy Lerer, Guy Zohar, Baruch Kara, and Roy Sharon. These journalists expressed concern that the layoffs would affect the broadcasts.

As reported in "Globes," there have been disagreements between the channel and its owners about the program of cutbacks that was to have been implemented before the Passover holiday. Management today informed the committee that the plan would now be carried out, following the channel's disappointing results for the first quarter of the year.

According to the committee, the layoffs were planned as soon as RGE became a shareholder in the channel in June 2015, and the date set now is only an excuse.
