Crowdfunding site Indiegogo opens Israel office

Indiegogo VP international marketing Liz Wald will particpate in this week's launch of the Tel Aviv office.

Crowdfunding company Indiegogo recently opened an office in Israel to promote Israeli projects on its website. Crowdfunding, which has become popular in recent years, enables entrepreneurs in various fields to run online financing campaigns that raise hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of dollars in small investments from private individuals. The investment does not entitle the contributors to a holding in the company; it entitles them to various prizes, such as being the first to obtain access to the product featured in the campaign.

It appeared already a year ago that Indiegogo was starting a flirtation with the Israeli market. Indiegogo cofounder and CEO Slava Rubin visited Israel last year for the DLD Tel Aviv conference. This year's conference, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday in the old Jaffa railway station in Neve Tzedek, will be attended by Indiegogo VP international marketing Liz Wald.

Wald will also participate in Indiegogo's official launching ceremony in Israel, to be led by its Israeli representative, Oren Simanian, marketing and communities manager for the Israeli crowdfunding market. Simanian is a professional soccer referee who founded (and until recently managed) the StarTAU entrepreneurship center at Tel Aviv University.
