Pro-Palestinian activists in Oakland, California, prevented port workers from unloading the Zim Shanghai.

For the second time in two months, pro-Palestinian activists have succeeded in halting the unloading of cargo from a Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. ship. Zim is partly Israeli owned. The incident occurred yesterday (Saturday) at the port of Oakland, California. Hundreds of activists gathered on the quay and hindered port workers from unloading cargo from the ship.

A spokesperson for the port workers stated on Facebook that the workers did not unload the cargo from the Israeli ship, the Zim Shanghai, because of the large numbers of police and demonstrators at the port. He added that, out of safety concerns, it was decided that the crane operators would not enter the area.

The demonstrators said they were protesting against Israel's latest military action in Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip. Steve Zeltzer, a spokesman for the Stop Zim Action Committee, said 200 activists demonstrating against the unloading of the ship were at the port.

He added that the protestors planned to demonstrate again during later shifts at the port. Last month, demonstrators prevented the Zim Piraeus from unloading at Oakland for five days.
