Elbit Systems wins $145m US contract

The company is participating in the Customs and Border Protection project for Arizona.

Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) today announced in response to US media reports, that a US subsidiary has won a $145 million contract from the US Department of Homeland Security. The company is participating in the Integrated Fixed Tower project for the Customs and Border Protection. The current contract is for 12 months, and the department has options which it may exercise of several years.

The observation towers to be installed along the US-Mexican border include sensors for spotting, tracking, and classifying intelligence across the border, as well as command and control centers.

"Arizonans have been waiting more than a decade for the Department of Homeland Security to place the needed technology along our border to support the Border Patrol and fully secure our southern border," said Senator John McCain (Republican, Arizona). "If this technology is developed, integrated and fielded correctly, these Integrated Fixed Towers in southern Arizona, coupled with the tremendous work of the Border Patrol, will give our agents the ability to detect, evaluate, and respond to all illegal entries crossing our border.
