Many of the disputes declared by the Histadrut involve employment of contract workers.

The Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) has approved labor disputes in a number of places, including Haifa Port and Israel Railways, the Histadrut announced today.

The work dispute declared at Haifa Port, which involves 1,100 workers, concerns the port management's plan to outsource operational work currently taking place in an area which the Histadrut says the workers assert is a work area of the port workers, and which was outlined and defined as such under previous collective work agreements.

In the work dispute approved at Israel Railways, 2,600 railway workers are protesting management's decision to introduce contract workers into Israel Railways ticket offices for the purpose of selling transportation discount cards.

A work dispute was also approved at Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI), where workers are claiming that the company's plan to establish a central operating mechanism for the its plants is not part of the reorganization agreed to in the collective work agreement. The workers are also protesting the employer's decision to outsource work currently performed by IMI workers, and management's attempts to subvert union organization through the employment of workers using various methods, undermine the workers committee, and refrain from paying the union.

Other work disputes were approved for the Israel Police construction center, Bar Ilan University, the Poriya Medical Center, the Taibe municipality, National Insurance Institute workers in Beer Sheva, the Jaffa Community Mental Health Center, and Income Tax and Land Tax workers in Nazareth.
