As the August heat wave intensifies, last winter's record megawatt consumption was beaten.
As the August heat wave intensifies, Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) reported that electricity consumption reached a record 12,420 megawatt at 14.00 this afternoon. The previous highest-ever summer electricity consumption in Israel was on July 19 2012 when 11,880 megawatt was consumed. The highest ever overall electricity consumption in Israel was earlier this year on January 12 when 11,930 megawatt was consumed.
Yesterday, consumption of 9,927 megawatt was recorded, the highest ever electricity consumption for a summer Saturday. The previous Saturday record of 9,515 megawatt was recorded on Saturday, August 30 2014.
The rising electricity consumption comes as the heat wave peaks today with temperatures of 40° C today in Jerusalem and 45° C in Eilat and the south.
