More than 50 suspects including organized crime leaders and senior figures in the underworld have been arrested by Israel Police in one of the biggest crackdowns in recent years, "Walla" reports. Police sources say they have solved more than 40 major crimes committed over the past 12 years including murders, attempted murders and other serious crimes.

The wave of arrests was facilitated by a protracted and extensive investigation by Israel Police's international serious crimes squad together with the Tel Aviv district's 433 special unit.

The arrest of most of the suspects will be extended through tomorrow. There is a gag order on details of the investigations.

Adv. Sharon Nahari who is representing some of the suspects arrested said, "We will respond in court."
