Flying SpArk believes it has the answer to the problem of ecologically sound animal protein.

The world is surely and swiftly marching towards a population of 10 million, a fact that concerns decision makers everywhere. One of the main challenges is how to feed all those mouths, and particularly how to provide animal protein. Already, the world is having to contend with difficult problems arising from the breeding of cattle, poultry and fish, which are among the main polluters of the environment and producers of greenhouse gases. On the basis of this, an Israeli startup called Flying SpArk was founded. It produces high-quality, environmentally friendly animal protein by breeding and processing fruit fly larvae.

This is an insect that feeds solely on fruit, and its advantages over other animals and insects are its high nutritional value, its very small ecological footprint, the ease with which it can be bred, and its short life-span, during which it multiplies its body mass fifteen times over.

The larvae are harvested just before they pupate, and are processed into a rich protein powder that represents a high-quality, attractively priced alternative to existing animal protein sources.

Flying SpArk was founded by Eran Gronich (CEO) and Yoram Yerushalmi (CTO) and is based in Ramat Gan.
