Microsoft Ventures led the Series A funding with Shlomo Kramer and TLV Partners.

Israeli virtual container platform company Aqua Security today announced it has secured $9 million in Series A funding, led by Microsoft Ventures. Aqua’s seed investors TLV Partners and Shlomo Kramer also participated in financing round bringing Aqua’s total investment to date to $13.5 million. Cybersecurity luminary and investor Shlomo Kramer will be joining Aqua’s Board of Directors.

Aqua security was founded in 2015 by CEO Dror Davidoff and CTO Amir Jerbi. Davidoff said, "Security has become a key enabler in container adoption, and I look forward to working with Microsoft as we expand our footprint, helping our customers to unlock the benefits of this new technology.”

Microsoft Ventures managing director Mony Hassid said, “Containers are revolutionizing application development and delivery, driving new levels of innovation and developer agility. Aqua’s comprehensive security platform for containers enables enterprises to accelerate adoption on both private and public clouds."

Aqua launched its platform for general availability in May 2016. In a short period, the company achieved significant growth and customer adoption. Fortune 500 customers in the financial services, technology, retail and online services sectors are already using the Aqua platform to secure production environments and embed security into their container development and delivery cycle. The company plans to double its staff by mid-2017.

Kramer said, "Aqua’s amazing progress in bringing its platform to market and growing its customer base are indicative of how rapidly containers are being adopted by enterprises, and of the need for a new security approach for this new stack."

The Aqua Container Security Platform delivers an advanced security solution for containerized environments, supporting Docker on both Windows and Linux, and available for on-premises deployment or on Azure, AWS and Google clouds. It provides development-to-production container lifecycle protection by combining smart default security profiles, behavioral analytics, and in-house cybersecurity research to create a comprehensive security and compliance envelope.
