Half of Israel's employees earned NIS 6,426 or less a month, according to a study published today by the National Insurance Institute. The study, which pertains to the end of 2014, showed that the median income rose 2.8% in 2014, compared with 2013. The median monthly income of self-employed people was NIS 4,781.
The average monthly wage rose 2% to NIS 9,939 in 2014, while men earned 47% more than women: women's average monthly wage totaled NIS 8,026 at the end of 2014, compared with an average of NIS 11,826 for men. The average monthly wage of self-employed people was NIS 9,567.
The study, which analyzes wage levels according to place of residence, found that Tel Aviv leads Israel's large cities in income per working family. An average Tel Aviv family earn NIS 25,444 gross per month, ahead of Haifa (NIS 22,901), Rishon Lezion (NIS 22,453), Petah Tikva (NIS 21,663), and Netanya (NIS 17,852). The average monthly per-family income in Jerusalem was NIS 12,492, less than 50% of that of a corresponding family in Tel Aviv.
The towns with the highest income in Israel were Kfar HaOranim and Savyon, with average monthly per capita incomes of NIS 19,332 and NIS 19,026, respectively. The poorest towns in Israel were Modi'in Ilit and Jisr az-Zarqa, with average per capita monthly wages of NIS 5,573 and NIS 5,690, respectively. The average wage in Jewish communities was 45% higher than the average wage in non-Jewish communities.
