The Manufacturers Association regularly urges the public to buy Israeli-made goods.

The Manufacturers Association of Israel (MAI), whose leadership regularly calls upon everyone to buy local goods in order to support Israeli industry - bought its workers 200 shirts that were made in China. The shirts were bought in two colors - blue and white - and were distributed to MAI employees during a company weekend retreat in an Eilat hotel, where they were used for a sports competition between the headquarters staff and the staff from the other branches around Israel.

Senior Manufacturers’ Association officials admitted today that this is an embarrassing incident, which was caused by an employee error. The MAI said, “The shirt incident was an accident that does not reflect the Manufacturers Association’s values. At MAI, we take great care to buy only Israeli-made products, out of a belief that we should give these products preference over imported goods. Buying made-in-Israel products helps the economy grow, encourages local industry, and creates new jobs.”
