The Presidential candidate has bowed to public pressure and declared his assets.

Presidential candidate MK Meir Sheetrit (Hatenua) has bowed to public pressure and presented his declaration of wealth to the public. Initially he refused to do so unlike the four other candidates standing for the election for President.

At the start of today's Hatenua Knesset faction meeting, Sheetrit said that he owns five apartments which he bought with his wife Ruti. He said that in addition to the house in which he lives in Yavne, he owns a 96 square meter apartment in Moshe Aviv Tower in Tel Aviv, which was bought by Ruti in 2007 for $540,000 and is today worth NIS 2.5 million.

He bought his home in Yavne in 1987 for NIS 1.2 million and he estimates it is worth between NIS 2 and 3 million today. He also owns an apartment in Eilat purchased in 1996 for NIS 140,000, which is today worth NIS 900,000.

Sheetrit also said that he owns an apartment in Ashkelon bought for NIS 400,000, which is still its value today. The fifth apartment in Ashdod was bought by the Shetreets last year. He said, "We bought an apartment for Ruti's mother who lives in Dimona and wanted to live near her daughter. She died to my regret two months ago." The Ashdod apartment cost NIS 1.05 million.

Sheetrit also disclosed his salary slip which is NIS 39,000 gross and NIS 20,000 net. As a former minister he also receives a monthly pension of NIS 3,000 before tax.
