Former Intel SVP Mooly Eden: With the right eco-system, Israel can become a global FinTech center.

Shmuel (Mooly) Eden, who recently stepped down as president of Intel Israel and as a Senior VP at Intel Corporation, has been appointed chief advisor on innovation and technology at Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI). Eden will serve as an external consultant, at the bank's request, and will advise the bank on its technological strategy.

"After I left Intel I promised myself and my family that I would drop down a gear for at least a year," Eden said, "Zion Kenan's approach to me to joining Bank Hapoalim as a consultant and to take part in leading the digital revolution at the bank took me by surprise. The challenge of defining future interfaces, implementing advanced technologies in collaboration with FinTech start-ups, defining interfaces that will enable them to develop and examine creative ideas within a short time, looks fascinating. I believe that by creating a suitable eco-system, Israel could become a global FinTech center."

A central plank of Bank Hapoalim's strategy is to boost its efforts and presence in FinTech, hence the link-up with Eden, who joined Intel in 1982 and reached the level of senior VP at Intel Corporation, and general manager of the PC Client Group, a division turning over $32 billion annually. In 2012, "Forbes" magazine named Eden among the world's ten most brilliant minds in technology and innovation.

Eden, 64, announced his retirement from Intel in March this year. His last job there was as general manager of perceptual computing.

Bank Hapoalim CEO Zion Kenan said, "The world in which we operate is changing rapidly, and the digital revolution can be felt in all aspects of banking. We are committed to providing our customers the most up-to-date services and products, tailored to their needs. At the same time, we continue to develop technological infrastructures that enable us to maintain interfaces and collaborations at a high level with the world around us from financial institutions, to technology giants, to start-ups. Mooly will take part in a series of strategic moves the aim of which is to ensure that Bank Hapoalim will continue to lead the technology front in Israel's banking system."
